Corn Chowder

One of the two soups offered at my dining hall today was corn chowder. Usually, I never choose creamy soup other than clam chowder at the dining hall, but today, I decided to reach for the corn chowder.

I have never had corn chowder with potato in it, but the potato went well with the milky heavy soup.

The soup reminded me of my grandma's corn chowder... It's just a simple Campbell Soup Clam Chowder, but the taste of it reminded me of being at her home, sitting down at her kitchen, with her making the chowder as she toasts a thick slice of bread in her toaster.

The soup kind of made me miss home.

It's almost Thanksgiving, and people are leaving, and perhaps that's why I keep on thinking about home.

Brazilian Restaurant in Cambridge

Cambridge street is filled with cute local stores, and Muqueca was one of them.

The waiter there is really really nice and cooperative. He showed a sad face when we objected his dessert offer. :( Sorry, we'll get dessert next time...!

Appetizer: Brazilian Crab Cake (Casquinha de Siri)

Main: Fish Moqueca (Moqueca de Peixe); Moqueca means Brazilian style seafood stew with cilantro, tomato, and onion. Served with rice and pirao.

Mariscada: Shrimp, crabmeat, mussels, and squid with cilantro, tomato, onion, and coconut milk. Served with rice, farofa, and plantain moqueca.

Yummm.....! I noticed I love Brazilian rice. Allrecipes.com says the rice is fried in oil with minced onions and garlic before cooking it. No wonder it's so good....

I was so full and happy :)

tabeta. My mom and my brother went to Aoyama Maisen yesterday with a family friend and they bought sandwiches back! Had one yesterday when I came back from work, and I was going to eat the two other sandwiches in the morning... but got taken by Dad. lol

But when I came home today, one pack of the sandwiches was left! So I had it alll.. yummm

いくらとグレープフルーツの冷製パスタ

So I saw this on Cookpad.com; the plate for the daily menu for July 29th, 2009.

It looks so good... with ikura, grapefruit, and cucumber with a Japanese taste of seaweed tea, lemon juice, and soy sauce.

But i have a problem with this... ikura is good as it is on top of sushi rice. preferably not on warm spaghetti... because the goodness of fresh ikura disappears by putting it on something warm.

and no grapefruit on pasta. i understand grapefruit with raw ham, but not with carbs.

But i do like the combination of cucumber with ikura. sounds good, especially with the japanese dressing.

thats it. i just felt like writing that down.

おばさんと浅草に行った時の帰り道に、新宿伊勢丹に入ってるとらやでお茶をしました。

二人とも宇治金かき氷を注文！すっごく大きいポーション。Brain freezeにならないで食べきった！

和菓子 紀の国屋 最中

ローラから頂いた紀の国屋の相国最中。大納言と栗の最中があるみたいだけど、大納言のほうを頂いた。中のお餅が入ってる事によって、最中丸一個食べても飽きない味が続いておいしーい。美味しく頂きました。

周りの小麦粉の部分は結構ほろほろしていて崩れやすい。でも、口の中で麦の味がして美味しい

中の小豆はドライな感じがするけどぎっしり詰まってて美味しい

この前おばさんと一緒に上野の美術館に行った時に、「今日は火曜日だからうさぎやが開いているわよ」って事でうさぎやでどら焼きを５つ購入☆

ふわふわしてて美味しかった！！なかの小豆はちょっと甘かったかな。でも、いつ食べても美味しい物！

I wanted to eat unagi for a long time, and I missed the chance to do so on my birthday lunch this year, so I was so happy!

Dad ordered a course meal:

ママと銀座に行った後に、表参道にあるまい泉に連れて行ったもらったー！

金曜日だったのに全然混んでなくってびっくり！でも、疲れててお腹が空いていたから嬉しかった

Omg...It was amazing. Although it's fried food, it's nothing compared to American fried stuff. This one is perfectly fried with a perfect amount of panko and perfectly fried.

My parents have been taking my family to this restaurant in Aoyama ever since I was little...

I love it.

パパとママと３人で下北デート♡

親と初のお酒！えん屋ってところで梅酒を頂きました。

野菜のお造り

カラフルで５種類のお味噌が付いてきた！！野菜は野菜のままでも美味しく食べれた！

あと。。お刺身が食べたいという願望で、お刺身のセットを頼んでくれた。

他に沢山あったけど。。びっくりした物はジャンボコロッケ！すごくおっきかった！普通のコロッケの２倍で、３人で分けてちょうどいい感じだった。でもお腹いっぱい。中のポテトがすごく甘くて美味しかった！

デザートは近所にあるミニスーパーでアイスクリームを購入。

ハーゲンダッツのクッキーズ　アンド　クリームと迷ったけど、この前はなまるにモト冬樹さんが紹介したMOWにひかれて、そっちを食べました。

これ、マスカルポーネが入ってるチーズのやつなんだけど。。感動！

今度はオリジナルを食べたい！

めかぶ and Cookies!

My sister was kind enough to send me mekabu lol for my healthy snack!

I actually ate two of them today, and now there are none left in the package :(
Mekabu is the root part of wakame... according to the package.

and TODAY is a special day. because one of my friends called me during lunch time to tell me that those homemade looking yummy cookies were OUT TODAY IN THE DINING HALLS.

So the story goes like this... it's kind of lame, but I did it. I found these granola cranberry cookies last semester at one of the dining halls. I grabbed one and walked out of the dining hall thinking these are really really good. So I decide to get some more, so i went to "dining hall S" but they didn't have them! So proceeded to "dining hall T," but nope. So went to "dining hall BB" and found TONS of them! and I ate 2 more and brought back 2 more in my hands. what a fatty. and I enjoyed them all to myself. lol what a selfish person. actually, i shared one with my friend! haha

These cookies are so rare; the Claflin bakers don't make them very often. But I found them the other day. I grabbed like 4 or 5 of them, put them in a ziplock bag, and brought them to the Japanese dinner we had. Those cookies recieved highly appreciated and glorified comments.

And.. today, my friend called me at lunch to tell me that those cookies were out again. In no time, i arrive to "dining hall C" and grab like.. 4 or 5 of them. LOL

later in the day, i saw my friend who called me, and she told me that when she went back to her dining hall, there were NONE left. So we just had some cookies that I got earlier today. It brought happiness to us. haha They're the amazing cookies at my college.

Poppy seed

Did you know that poppy seeds come from poppy flower!? I did not know that until last week. Poppy is my mom's favorite flower, so when I found out about that connection, I was shocked.

Why poppy seed today? because i ate the devil bakery breakfast of the day: poppy bread. I like it. Esp the edge. Edge is the best.

Anyway, so i wikipedia again about poppy. Poppy seeds are used in bagels, muffins, cakes, pasta in Hungary, rice puddings, sweet dumplings, and milk (as traditional Lithuanian Christmas Eve dish). It can also come in the form of oil, apparently..
